By College Sources

July 6, 2007: On this day, 26 years ago (1981), Rev. Fr Bernard L. D’Souza founded the Pompei College . The first Founder’s Day was celebrated on 6.7.2006. The second Founder’s Day celebration was held in the Providence Hall of the college on 6.7.2007. Rev. Fr Charles Noronha, Correspondent, presided over the function.

V. Rev. Fr Alfred J. Pinto, Parish Priest of Kinnigoli and the Vicar Forane of the Kinnigoli Varado was the Chief Guest. Mrs Yamunakshi represented the PTA and Mr Santhan D’Souza the Alumni Association on the dais along with the Principal.

Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca, Principal, welcomed the gathering. The President and the Chief Guest jointly garlanded the portrait of Rev. Fr Bernard and paid homage to the great Founder. In his address, Fr Alfred recalled the vision and hard work of Fr Bernard of which he was a personal witness. Fr Charles paid glowing tribute to the noble Founder and invited the students to benefit from the B. A., B. Com. and the B. B. M. Courses. The formal programme was followed by cultural items from each class which were artistically presented and enjoyed by all present. This was followed by sweets-distribution.

The Holy Mass which followed, for the Catholic students (112/ 448), was celebrated by Fr Alfred and concelebrated by Fr Valerian. Special prayers were offered for the late Founder and all the members of the Pompei Family spread all over the world.

Thus the Founder’s Day was conducted with befitting solemnity and was a memorable experience.
