Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca, the Principal of Pompei College, will retire from service on December 31,2007.
Ever since he took charge of the College on July 1, 2003, he has given a face-lift to the college and can be rightly called the Transformer of the college. Within 4 years, he has worked wonders in the rural area of Aikala and has made the name of Pompei College shine at the national and international level.
An excellent academician, a well-known musician, a talented composer and a great orator, he has contributed much to the educational artistic, cultural and musical fields. A devoted Priest with a helping nature and kind hearted noble personality, he has won the hearts of one and all. As an administrator of two higher educational institutions, Milagres College, Kallianpur and Pompei College, Aikala, he has proved his academic excellence, leadership qualities and managerial ability.
Born on 09-12-1949 at Shirva, he had his schooling at Shirva. Later, he secured his B.Sc. degree from St Aloysius College, Mangalore with 1st Rank in English. He joined St Josephs Seminary, Mangalore, in 1966 and was ordained Priest in 1976. He secured the Masters Degree in English Literature from Mysore University in 1983. Having served as a lecturer in English at Milagres P. U. College, Mangalore and Milagres College, Kallianpur he was promoted as principal of Milagres College on October 1, 1997. Since July 1,2003, he has been leading Pompei College to great heights of academic and co-curricular excellence.
It is with a sense of immense gratitude that we, the Management, Staff, present and former students, parents of the students and the publiC of Kirem and Kinnigoli have decided to hold a farewell function in his· honour on December 31,2007. In recognition of his meritorious service tQ the society, we intend to bring out a Souvenir on the occasion. The amount collected through advertisements will be utilised to continue the existing Free Mid-day Meal Programme for the poor students of the college in the name of Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca. The said programme was started on July 1, 2004 by Rev. Fr Valerian Mendonca and so far, 397 needy students have benefited by this well appreciated programme. Your whole hearted co-operation in the form of an advertisement in the souvenir will help us achieve this goal.
