Old Student of the month : Valerian Aranha & Gracy D'Mello
 
Hi to everybody from Pompei College.
My name is Valerian Aranha from Kinnigoli. I studied in Pompei from High school till the College. Therefore I am associated with Pompei for almost 8 years. I passed out in April 1989 from B.Com stream. I pursued my CA studies in Mangalore under M/s Rodrigues and D'Souza and passed the ICAI Final examination in November 1992 with 47th Rank (All over India). My wife is Honora Gracy D'Mello (from Jarigekatte) who was also from my same class in Pompei College. We are happily married for the past 9 years and have three kids (all boys). Presently we are working in Dubai. Since both of us are the products of Pompei College, we can proudly say that the Pompei College has played a major role in our success. We are and ever will remain grateful to the College.
I am very glad to see the progress of Pompei College from its inception. I was studying in Pompei High School when the college was started in the Pompei Pre-University section. I was one of the privileged students who have done "shramadaan" during the construction of the College, leveling of ground etc during our PET and leisure time. We are ever grateful to Fr Bernard L D'Souza whom I know personally as a religious as well as educational mentor. He has served Kinnigoli Parish as Parish Priest and I was an Altar Boy during his time in Kinnigoli. I still remember the fear we had of Fr Bernard when we committed mischief. I was one of the children who have tasted the beatings from his hand. But I have no regrets or shame about it because I know that such beatings have taught me lessons for the future which I can never forget. If it was not for his great efforts, who knows how many of the youth like me would have thought of continuing studies after their PUC. But because of Pompei College we can see so many graduates from Kinnigoli and surrounding places. So many of the Pompei students have pursued further studies and reached great heights in their lives, for which we should ever remain grateful to the college , its founder and all the people and staff associated with it. I can never forget Fr Bernard who is instrumental in inculcating great social values amongst the students. He has commanded great respect from the students. I truly admire him as a great educationist who served the society with full sincerety and hard work. Recently I came to know about the ill health of Fr Bernard. May he recover and gain his good health through our prayers. May the Lord bless him abundantly for whatever he has done for the College and its students.
Finally I thank all my lecturers and the staff of Pompei College who are working sincerely and imparting educational values in lives of the students. Because of them, Pompei College today is a shining star in the Mangalore University. We have wonderful people in the college. We have a smiling and friendly Principal now in Fr Valerian Mendonca whom I happened to meet during my recent vacation in Aug 2004. We feel proud that Pompei is now ACCREDITED and the report from the NAAC (report can be seen on the website) speaks for itself what the College has achieved during the years. Keep up the good work. Let the college reach greater heights with the able leadership of Fr Mendonca and his team.
I personally request all my good old colleagues to be in constant contact with our Alma Mater who is fast approaching its Silver Jubilee. Let us make the Jubilee of the College a grand success. The website is an apt place for all of us to be in constant touch with each other. Let us share the joy of our College through this website. Let us share our thoughts with the Management, staff and students of the college who will be more than happy to read the success stories, guidance from the ex-Pompei-ites. If you are not yet registered yourself for the Alumni Association, you may please join the same. The Life Membership costs Rs 500 only. Let us hope that one day Pompei will have Science stream as well to its forte.
